November 2023: Their first meeting
It all started in November 2023, when Han So-hee attended Ryu Jun-yeol’s photo exhibition, ‘A Wind Runs Through It and Other Stories’. Just for context, at that time Yeol had just come out of a seven-year-long relationship with Girl’s Daymember and his Reply 1988 co-star Lee Hye-ri.
Han So-hee posted a photo of herself attending Ryu Jun Yeol’s photo exhibition right around the time when his breakup with Hye-ri was announced. She later confirmed in a blog post that the exhibition outing marked the duo’s first meeting. “I went there through a friend who’s a photographer with the goal of viewing the exhibition, and because I’d heard the news that we might be doing a project together, I wound up saying hello,” she wrote.
Early March 2024: The Hawaiian romance and drama ensues
What actually ignited the relationship rumours was the duo being spotted at the same hotel in Hawaii. Korea JoongAng Daily revealed that a post in Japanese, mentioning ‘popular Korean actors’ from K-dramas like Reply 1988 and Nevertheless, spread like wildfire online and cemented the duo’s relationship. Even though the post didn’t include a photo and was deleted shortly later, eagle-eyed netizens were sure who it referred to. What followed was several witnesses coming forward and claiming they saw Han So-hee and Ryu Jun-yeol together at a luxury hotel swimming pool in Hawaii.
This is finally when their respective agencies stepped in. While the stars’ relationship rumours were neither denied nor confirmed, the agencies admitted the two were indeed in Hawaii.
While the two were being blasted with relationship headlines, Yeol’s ex-girlfriend, Hyeri unfollowed him and shared a cryptic post translating to ‘That’s funny’. Han So-hee soon dropped a message which seemed to be a subtle reply to Hyeri’s comment. She shared a picture of a dog holding a knife, mentioning, “I don’t even like people who already have partners. I don’t leave them gaps under the guise of friendship. I have not shown care, formed relationships, or intruded into others’ relationships,” Soompireported.
She then touched upon the concept of ‘transit love’, which means moving onto a new relationship before ending your previous one. “I like ‘Transit Love’ dating shows, but it’s not part of my life. It’s funny to me too,” she added.
Mid-March 2024: The relationship is official (and some drama)
Han So-hee finally put an end to all speculations by confirming her relationship via personal blog. In her March 16 post, the Gyeongseong Creatureactress further requested fans to not label the relationship as a ‘rebound’. Han So-hee was also apologetic for her previous Instagram activity (seemingly targeting Hyeri), mentioning that she was overwhelmed by the cheating rumours. “My patheticInstagram story. It’s true, it was pathetic and lame,” she stated. “I’m sorry and apologetic, but because of that, I want to do better”. The post continued, “I will learn how to control my greedy self, and I will greet you as a more mature version of myself.”
Only hours later, Ryu Jun-yeol’s agency too stamped their relationship via an official statement. Han So-hee and the actor were confirmed to be dating since the beginning of the year.
End of March 2024: It’s splitsville for the couple
Now this is why we called this affair ‘messy’. After all the controversy, name-calling, apologies and whatnot, the relationship came to an end just two weeks later. Both Ryu Jun-yeol’s reps and Han So Hee’s agency 9ato Entertainment released s statement confirming the breakup. “They both realised that their roles as actors are more important. They promised not to waste any more emotions on personal matters,” it read.
The statement further pointed out how Han So-hee made herself and the public ‘suffer due to her personal feelings’. Condemning the actress for her actions and also taking a share of the blame for not being able to cater to her, the agency requested fans to ‘look over her kindly’.
And well, that was the end.

According to Koreaboo, the speculative video was uploaded by the gossip channel SOJANG.A tourist also claimed that they saw the actors ‘frolicking’ together by the poolside. The onlooker said the photos were ‘too shocking for the world to see’.
